Eshkol: Contemporary Jewish and Israeli Culture in Moscow Project was launched in 2004. During this period it conducted more than 100 different activities: from small literary evenings to concerts, from culinary shows and master-classes to lectures on Jewish history and Judaism. All of them draw considerable interest from the widest audience. The children matinees started by the Project evolved after some time into a special program of study and entertainment. Called Eshkolit, it enables Jewish children aged 3 to 12 to learn about Jewish tradition, culture and contemporary Israel in an entertaining game fashion.
The Project brought to Moscow a number of Israeli artists and musicians, among them Biluim and Dag Nahash rock bands, female singers Ruth Weiss and Efrat Gosh, Ronit Ziv's Modern Ballet Company and the Blue Cat Theater. During the Moscow Poets Biennale Eshkol organized the participation of a large group of Israeli Hebrew and Russian poets. The Eshkol Jewish Moscow Tours are very popular among those city residents who want to know more about their roots. Not long ago the project started a lectures course on the history of Judaism
Eshkol is becoming more and more popular among the people interested in Jewish and Israeli culture, as well as among all those who are open and receptive to new and unusual cultures. Currently the number of regular participants in our activities (more than 6 times a year) passed 300. In the course of the year, more than 1,800 people participated in different Eshkol activities. The Project's work has been extensively covered by local recreational media (TimeOut Moscow, Afisha), national periodicals (Izvestiya, magazines), news web-sites (Gazeta.ru), TV and radio channels (RBK-TV, TNT, Kultura, STS, Stolitsa, Yunost, Radio Rossii, Svoboda) as well as by many web-sites specializing on music, cinema, literature, etc.
